The 2011 Impreza Continues to Impress—At 2010 Prices

With responsive handling, spirited performance, and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive technology, the Subaru Impreza has long been known for offering big-time features in the compact-car segment. Well, that’s not going to change for 2011, but now there’s even better news: On non-turbocharged models, neither will the base sticker price. (Information about the turbo-powered 2011 Impreza GT was not available at press time.)

The Subaru Impreza 2.5i will again lead the lineup by starting at just $17,495—the same base price as last year—for the sedan and $17,995 for the five-door hatchback. Both models holster Subaru’s peppy 170-hp boxer engine, along with standard safety features like Vehicle Dynamics Control and Brake Assist, an impressive level of content, and, for the 2011 model year, two new colors. Subaru WRX STI Sets New Record on the ‘Ring

The team at Subaru specifically set out to make the 2011 WRX STI the fastest one ever, and it looks like things are off to an excellent start. Driven by four-time World Rally Champ Tommi Makinen, an early ’11 WRX STI sedan built for Subaru R&D recently carved up Germany’s grueling Nürburgring racecourse in just 7 minutes, 55 seconds—quicker than any previous Subaru by a full 4 seconds.

According to Makinen, “The car was controllable with precise and faithful handling even on tricky corners. I could easily predict the car’s behavior. That is exactly what Subaru is offering, confidence.” [click to continue…]

2011 Subaru Outback and Legacy: New Value for a New Year

While Subaru sales continue to skyrocket—the automaker had its best April ever in 2010, with numbers up 48 percent over the same month last year—what’s especially notable for the automaker is what hasn’t seen a significant increase: Sticker prices.

Subaru recently released the starting MSRPs for its 2011 model year Legacy and Outback, and the company was able to hold the line on the Legacy and limit the price increase on the Outback to a mere $200. [click to continue…]

The evidence: The Parents/Edmunds.com partnership, with the input of several “real” families, have named a Subaru to their annual list of “Best Family Cars” for the second consecutive year. If you’re looking for a great return on investment for your automotive dollar, Subaru is the right place to look. The automaker put two of its vehicles—the Subaru Outback and the Subaru Legacy—on the “2010 Cars: Where the Deals Are” list, published each year by “Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.”

The Legacy, which Subaru completely redesigned for the 2010 model year, was honored by the Kiplinger’s experts as their “Best New Car” in the $25,000-$30,000 range. Subaru Outback a Big Winner on the Inside

The Subaru Outback has a long history as a rugged performer, and today it’s even more capable than ever before. The mid-size crossover still boasts the latest full-time four-wheel-drive technology that Subaru has to offer, and now, thanks to a complete redesign for 2010, the Outback also features a new, more robust chassis, shorter front and rear overhangs, and ground clearance that’s been upped to 8.7 inches.

Just as significantly, while the Subaru remains one tough customer in terms of capabilities, the toughest thing about the new Outback’s interior is finding one that’s better. Demand For Legacy, Outback Fuels Greater Production

Subaru continues to be in high demand thanks to its freshly revamped lineup of vehicles. Due to this demand, Subaru is also planning to increase production of the Outback and the Legacy.

Both the Legacy and the Outback are assembled in Subaru’s Lafayette, Indiana. Currently, capacity for the plant is set at 100,000 vehicles per year, but Subaru plans on squeezing out another 140,000 per year to meet growing demand for both models. This will be done by either speeding up the pace of the assembly line, or by reducing the the number of Toyota Camry’s being built in that facility, as the plant currently has the capacity to make 100,000 units of the Camry as well. While Subaru has definitely been on a roll lately, the company’s hallmark high-performer—the Subaru Impreza WRX STI—has actually been underperforming in the marketplace. But the company, along with its customers, can expect that to start changing, thanks to a change in the car’s available body styles.

As announced at the New York International Auto Show, one of the hottest of the hot hatches now has a four-door sibling, making it an even stronger competitor for its long-time rival, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution sedan. While the current Subaru Impreza WRX and WRX STI are still relatively newer models, Subaru was the target of harsh criticism when the WRX debuted as some enthusiasts felt it was a bit watered-down compared to the previous generation. Slowly but surely, Subaru is looking to change those perceptions, and the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI should help to appease Subie purists.

For 2011, the Impreza WRX STI receives a heavily revised suspension system combined with lighter 18-in. wheels for improved handling. Handling should also be improved thanks to the STI’s new wid-body design. This model year will also mark the first time Subaru has offered the STI in two body styles including a five-door and four-door model. 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX Gets Wide-Body

When the current generation Subaru Imprezea WRX was introduced, it left many Subie enthusiasts wanting more. While the car was good looking and performed was adequately, it lacked both the quirkiness and aggressiveness of the previously model. For 2011, Subaru intends to make amends with those disappointed WRX fans by introducing an all-new wide-body design to make the WRX look and handle a little more like its predecessor.

The updated 2011 Impreza WRX is set to be unveiled at the New York Auto Show next week. It will feature a 1.5-inch increase in the front and rear track. In addition, handling should also be aided by the addition of firmer rear subframe bushings and even wider 17-inch wheels. [click to continue…]
